2012-2013 Job Market Discussion

UNC Chapel Hill will have visits until January. Weird positions - tenured or tenure track but not funded by state. Positions funded through proceeds of online MPA. Maximum 3-year contracts, even for tenured associates.
I am one of those interviewing at UNC. I don't really know what to make of it: A tenured (or tenure-track) position not funded by the state but from the proceeds of the online program. Suppose you are a tenured associate, the position is still for 3 years with renewal subject to funding availability. Contractual tenure?
Regarding UNC contracts (in lieu of tenure), this is not a common practice but it is done done at some universities (e.g., Fl Gulf Coast). UNC's MPA is in its School of Govt so it isn't in a 'traditional' academic setting (e.g., all professors are given 12 month appts).

Washington just finished job talks for one position and has the others scheduled for January.
I am assuming that the UGA position is for non-profit management, not the budgeting and finance position?

Pretty sure KU has completed talks for both positions.
They had the visits last November, but it's unclear whether a candidate was offered the position.
Someone was offered a position at KU, but I'm not sure it was accepted.
